In Design
I used In Design to create this magazine. To create the text i went on the text tool and then character, this then let me change the font of the text and let me space it out. I changed the size of the text, for example the first letter of the magazine to replicate what magazines do. I created a double page spread and used the rectangle frame tool. I then had to join all of the boxes together which would then make all of the text follow on from each other. I changed the colour of the background by using the fill tool.
Photoshop- christmas card
This is the card i created on photoshop. I first got the background image off google then set it as my background picture for the card. I then downloaded some brushes from brusheezy.com and added them to my brushes on photoshop. I downloaded the christmas tree and the snowflake brushes. As you can see i have changed the colour of them and have made them different sizes, i have also rotated some of them above the text. I have also downloaded a text from dafont.com, i then added this text to photoshop.

Cross Processing
This is the before image. I used this image as it was quite light and i could edit the colours of it quite easily.
This is the after image, as you can see i have changed the colours and he looks more like a cartoon. I created a new layer then new adjustment then i clicked on curves. The colours i messed around with were red, blue and green this made the image look totally different.

Photoshop edit- vampire
This was the original image that i had to edit in photoshop. I had to edit this image to make her look like a vampire, to do this i used a range of different tools.
This is the after image. I first coloured her face in by
using the sponge tool i set the mode to D saturate and then made the flow 80%. I then coloured over her face and it turned grey. I then edited her lips to do this I used the burn tool and changed the range to shadows I then coloured over her lips making the exposure 60% this then made the lips a lot brighter, I then went round her eyes using the same tool. I then changed her teeth and made them more pointy I did this by using the magnetic lasso tool and i drew round it then i clicked transform and warp then this let me pull her teeth down to make them look more vampire like. I then changed the colour of her eyes by using the lasso tool, I then clicked saturation which then let me chose a colour to do her eyes, i chose red as it makes her look more evil. I then downloaded some new brushes from brusheezy.com and I added them to my documents then added them to photoshop, these brushes relate to the picture as they were blood splats, I used these on her face then changed the colour to red. In this photo she now looks like a vampire and it is completely different to the original image.

Shutter speed photos
The shutter speed takes photos of moving pictures. It also controls the length of time that the light passes through the lens. For these photos we took an image of a torch and drew pictures with it in a dark room. We used different times on the camera so it could capture the whole image.

As you can see by these images we had the camera on about 1/125 seconds. This then captured the whole photo whilst we were drawing the image.

Composition techniques
Shot Distance
This is an example of a close-up shot, this is because the photo has been taken above the shoulders.
This is an example of the long distance shot, this is because you can see our body's as well rather than just our heads. As you can see the photo is slightly blurry so we also took other long shot photos so they are not blurry.

Framed composition ![]()
As you can see by this photo, the image of this person has been framed within one of the doors. This makes the photo look different and looks as though it has been shot in a photo frame.
The rule of thirds
This image is a rule of thirds as there is three windows so you could divide the picture up easily.

This is the other example of the long shot photo.

Eye line control
This photo is the eye line control because she is looking directly into the camera, so the camera is on the same eye level as her.
Use of line
In the first photo there is use of line becuase you can see the straight line in the photo that the camera can pick up. In the second photo there is use of line as there is the wall. We took this photo as the wall looks bigger nearer the camera, and it slowly looks smaller father away from the camera. As you can see we also got a person walking past the end of the wall, which shows distance between the person and the camera.
The rule of thirds
This image is a rule of thirds as there is three windows so you could divide the picture up easily.
Use of height
We also took height images, as you can see from this image the people are stood on the balcony in the hall, this shows that they are higher than the people taking the photo, so the camera is looking up at them. ![]()
Use of height
As you can see from the image above, we took the photo from a height looking down on the people we were taking photos of. This then makes the people in the image smaller than what they are.
As you can see by this image above there is a slight use of tilt because The two people in the image are lying different ways, so in order to capture them we had to tilt the camera slightly so you can see the people in the image properly.

Photoshop skills
Before image
This was the original photo that we had to edit in photoshop. We edited the photo to you can see what type of things you can do on photoshop and how you can edit the pictures to make them look different.
After image
For the after image I have edited it to make it look completely different to how the previous one was. I first added a new layer onto photoshop incase i made any mistakes. To make the spots disappear i used the healing brush tool, i had to keep changing the size of the brush by using the size brush tool, i did this because i had to go over each spot individually. I used the colour of her skin so the spot blends in easily. As you can see by this picture her skin is now clear compared to the previous picture. I have also changed the colour of her eyes, to do this I went onto the polygonal lasso tool which let me draw the shape around her eye, I then went onto the half circle at the bottom of the page and clicked on saturation, this then let me change the colour of her eyes.

Induction evaluation
This is the magazine front cover i have produced. This was in the style of NME.
Photography
Before I started this
project I had very little photography skills. During this project we
used photography skills to create our photos for the magazine. We
used manual focus on the camera. I have learnt that you can zoom in
on the camera so you don’t have to stand really close to the
person. I have also learned that you can focus the camera to get a
clear image which will look more effective. The T-stance helps you to
get a good photo as you are standing in the correct position and you
can get a clear photo as you are not moving around all over. I have
learnt that taking a portrait photo is always better for a magazine
front cover as magazines are portrait, so if you take it the correct
way you have to rotate it. If you take it landscape you will have
difficulty because you may have things in the image you don’t want.
I did take my image landscape when it was meant to be portrait,
however I realized my mistake and I retook the photos portrait. Some
of my images were focused, others were not. To improve this I would
have to take more time taking the photos and make sure the camera is
focused. I learned that if you are taking a photo make sure the light
is behind you so the light is not shining directly on you. They were
well composed but I did however forget about the rule of thirds, I
think I made the eye line slightly to high, but I made her look
directly at the camera so it looks like she is looking at you when
you purchase the magazine. I did not think carefully about the
background because I was originally going to take a photo with a
blank background, however I changed my mind last minute as took a
photo of her behind the gate which makes her look fierce and trapped.
This did not cause any problems because it looked effective. I
handled my subject by telling them what pose to do and where to
stand, my people skills did not effect my image because I already
knew my subject so we could just talk as normal and tell each other
what to do.
These were some of the original images i took, with the plain background. I also took them landscape before i realized i needed to take them portrait.
I also tried the photos in a short and medium shot. In these images i have changed the hairstyle compared to my magazine front cover to see which one looks better.
Photoshop
Some of the tools I
used on photo shop were the text tool, the colour tool, the layer
tool, the shapes tool and the character tool for the text. I found it
difficult at first but once you get used to it, it is quite easy to
use. My text was well controlled because I have used two different
types of writing, so it wasn’t overdone and I have also stuck to
three magazine colours red, purple and white. I did not cut out any
images in my magazine. I added effects on my title such as drop
shadow and filled in part of the title colour. I chose the fonts
‘Hobo std’ and ‘rosewood Std’. I chose these because I think
they look good. I used the colours red, purple and white because I
was going for a gothic type of magazine so I used quite dark colours.
To improve my front cover I would make the subject of my magazine
wear more black to match the magazine style more, I would also have
more uses of colour. The strengths of the magazine front cover were
that it was a close up photo that was unique because it was taken
behind a gate and it also had different styles of writing on the
magazine which makes it look more interesting. I have chosen to put
the magazine in a T shape as it is a typical magazine convention and
I have chosen to make the image and the masthead in the foreground of
the magazine so it stands out.
